Nostalgia is a powerful thing especially when you think about the simple joys from back in the day. For those of us in our 40s and 50s, certain items from our childhood hold a special place in our hearts. Here are ten things we used to have that many would spend big bucks to own today.
Metal Lunchboxes

The old school metal lunchboxes with the matching thermoses were built like tanks and had the coolest cartoon characters on them. Modern plastic ones just don’t feel the same and a vintage one in good shape is a total treasure.
Original Game Boy

We used to have that big gray brick with the green screen. Popping in Tetris and playing until the batteries died was the best. It was way cooler than phones are now and I really miss those clicking buttons.
Steel Radio Flyer Wagons

Every kid wanted a classic red wagon that was actually made of heavy metal and could haul just about anything around the neighborhood. They lasted forever unlike the flimsy plastic stuff you see in stores nowadays.
View Master Slides

Those View Master slides were awesome when we were kids. The 3D pictures felt like magic. You could sit on your floor and look at cool places for hours. I really wish I still had mine today.
Polaroid Cameras

Waiting for a photo to slowly develop right in front of your eyes was the original instant gratification. The smell of the chemicals and the shaky white border make those old photos feel much more real than digital files.
Rotary Telephones

There was a heavy weight to those old phones and the sound of the dial spinning back was so relaxing. You actually had to remember phone numbers back then which kept our brains a bit sharper I think.
Lite Brite

Mapping out glowing pictures with tiny colored plastic pegs was the best way to spend a rainy Saturday. Even though the pegs got lost in the carpet all the time the finished glowing masterpiece was always worth the effort.
Slinky Metal Toys

The original metal Slinky made that iconic jingle sound as it walked down the stairs all by itself. The plastic ones they sell now always get tangled way too easily and they just don’t have that classic springy weight.
Record Players

We used to sit and enjoy the entire album together. That crackle sound is something I really miss. I would pay good money to hear that needle hit the record again. It was the best childhood time of mine.
Cabbage Patch Kids

In the 80s, kids loved that these dolls had names and papers. People would wait in line forever to get one. They felt more like real family members than just some plastic toys from a store.
